Location: Standing
in the edge of the vast Thar desert, Jodhpur is an ancient city
that has victoriously withstood the ravages of time.Five hundred
and forty years after it was created, it still holds its head up
high, reminiscent of its founder, Rao Jodha, a proud Rajput
chieftain.
Accommodation:
93 well-appointed rooms, including 3 suites, give you a fine
taste of the grandeur of an earlier era while also offering you
all the modern amenities including modems and data ports. Most
of the rooms lead out onto a stunning jharokha or balcony from
where you can command a pleasant view of the bustling city or
the shimmering blue pool.
Restaurants & Bars: Strong,
spicy flavors dominate the traditional Marwari cuisine. And at the Marwar
- you’ll find all the local favorites: Jodhpuri Mas (an appetizing
mutton gravy) Gatta ki subzi (a zesty vegetable dish) and more.
Continental cuisine is also available. The specialty Chinese restaurant is
the only one of its kind in all of Rajasthan. The hot favorites are the
King Prawns fried to a golden crisp! A riveting wood carving of the
‘Tree of Life’ forms the backdrop of The Bar . However,
there’s a lot more than exotic cocktails served here. Tucked away
in a little corner is the Pastry Shop. But with its appealing array
of tarts and truffles, it serves as an ever-present temptation for sinful
indulgence.
Facilities:
Amid a hectic work schedule, the azure blue Swimming Pool serves as a
welcome diversion. You may even enjoy a workout; climb down to the Fitness
Center where you’ll find a fully equipped gymnasium, aerobics room, spa,
massage rooms as well as a ladies beauty parlor and gents salon. Other
recreation facilities include a tennis and croquet court, walking track and
putting green.

| Umaid
Bhavan Palace
Rates On Request |
Heritage |
|
Location: Umaid
Bhawan palace is a classic example of Indo-colonial art deco
style of the 1930's. The only palace to be constructed in the
20th century, it was a monumental task performed by three
thousand artisans 14 years to create this heritage wonder. A
unique feature of this palace is how the hand-chiselled
sandstone blocks have been put together in an interlocking
pattern without any mortar binding. This is even more amazing
because the palace is large - 195 metres long and 103 metres
wide. The imposing entrance leads one to lobby adorned with
black belgian marble, flanked by two impressive banquet halls -
the rathore durbar and the marwar hall. Crystal lamps, mounted
shikar trophies in the palm court lead to the spectacular
56-metre high centre dome hall.
Accommodation:
There is a choice of 94 rooms and suites. Each room
appointed with the furniture originally created for the Palace.
Surpassing the splendor of the other guest rooms are the Regal
Suites - originally used by Maharaja Umaid Singh and his
Maharani. In the foyer leading to these suites is a musical
fountain made entirely of English Crystal. Some of the old
retainers of the royal household are still there to serve the
needs of present day guests with the gracious hospitality that
has always been a unique hallmark of the Palace.
Restaurants & Bars: Enjoy the
sumptuous buffet laid out daily for lunch and dinner at the Marwar Hall,
with a wide choice of Indian, Continental and Rajasthani specialties. As
an alternative, there is Risala, the a la carte restaurant. The
lovely colonnaded verandah, The Pillars is a perfect setting for a
leisurely drink and snacks, to enjoy the wintery sun during the day or
watch it set at dusk. And as twilight falls and peacocks stalk across the
back lawns it is time for a drink at the Trophy Bar.
Facilities:
All the leisure facilities of the Palace are open to guests. Play a
vigorous game or two of squash, tennis or badminton. Work out at the
well-equipped Health Club, and after a swim in The Zodiac, the underground
swimming pool, relax on the sun-drenched lawns. Or try your hand at
billiards or croquet. Visit the private museum with its collection of
antiques or ramble in the immense 15-acre landscaped gardens.
